I've just had a breakthrough and I'm excited about it. I realize now what I need to do to take my writing to the next level. I need to look at:
1. What is the subject saying to you overall?
2. What does it remind you of from your own life experiences?
3. How does that example convey to you what is being said overall?
By responding to films as I'm doing and writing exercises, I'm finding my own voice as a writer and helping to say what I need to say to bring MY experiences to the page.
So far, that's what I've got. I need to trust myself, too. Not refer to my notes, just trust myself to know and remember.
This came after:
1. Reading Theresa's blog -see Talking Writing (http://theresawilliams-author.blogspot.com/)
2. Talking to Judy Dolan
3. Talking to Hal and reading his piece
4. Reading Dad's email after talking w/ him the previous day
5. Seeing "The King's Speech"
6. Going to the gym
7. Crying (a LOT a few days prior)
8. Not trying
9. Not thinking about any of it too much
10. A quick drink with friends after the gym
