2011 goals: reaching the next level
Well, after putting it off for about 2 or 3 years (yikes) I've finally joined a gym: the local 'Y'. I managed to drag myself there for the first time last night after work and stayed for almost an hour of cardio and some stretches and situps. It feels good that I've started, but now I'm nervous about keeping up with it all once school starts again on the 19th. Maintaining is the hardest part, I guess, but it doesn't have to be. I was inspired by something my yoga teacher said yesterday in class (yes, I'm editing this post a day later) and that was that we need to learn not only have fun during practice, but also to love ourselves even when we are feeling crappy.
When you get to that point of resistance, she said, the point where you are starting to stiffen and have fear about going deeper, going further, THAT'S when you need to stop taking it all so seriously and just say "I love that I am feeling crappy right now", breathe deeply and just go with it. It's not an easy undertaking.
When I think about moving to the next level in anything: yoga, my writing, my relationships, it indicates a deeper level of commitment and that to me is scary. I don't want to commit more, I don't want to go deeper - I've already taken on so much! But that is where fear of the unknown comes in. If we realize that we are all connected in some way, that we are all in the same boat, essentially, we can take comfort in knowing that life is an endless circle; there is an energy we belong to, we are part of, that will go on no matter what WE do.
If we can learn to let go of fear and self-loathing and accept ourselves as we are here and now, that is the first step. Once we take one step, we can take further steps, if even the tiniest, leading towards growth and expansion. Small steps, one at a time, are all we can ask of ourselves in these uncertain times. But we should take them rather than hold back. We by nature want to grow. Everything is cyclical, life is a circle, so sometimes we might move backwards or sideways before we move forward, but we should move. And we should try, if only by saying yes to ourselves, forgiving ourselves.
I have many goals for 2011. I'm going to try to keep up with yoga 2x/week and go to the gym 2 - 3x/week. With evening classes 2x/week and full-time work that will be tough, but I know I always feel better when I work out and become more fit. I know I tend to have more energy and my brain works better, and that helps my writing. I also intend to work on writing more this year; at least a little bit every day. It's a lot to take on, but I know if I trust myself, let go of fear, I can embrace change and inevitably move to the next level in all my endeavors.
I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes!

breakthrough (about process)
7am
I've just had a breakthrough and I'm excited about it. I realize now what I need to do to take my writing to the next level. I need to look at:
1. What is the subject saying to you overall?
2. What does it remind you of from your own life experiences?
3. How does that example convey to you what is being said overall?
By responding to films as I'm doing and writing exercises, I'm finding my own voice as a writer and helping to say what I need to say to bring MY experiences to the page.
So far, that's what I've got. I need to trust myself, too. Not refer to my notes, just trust myself to know and remember.
This came after:
1. Reading Theresa's blog -see Talking Writing (http://theresawilliams-author.blogspot.com/)
2. Talking to Judy Dolan
3. Talking to Hal and reading his piece
4. Reading Dad's email after talking w/ him the previous day
5. Seeing "The King's Speech"
6. Going to the gym
7. Crying (a LOT a few days prior)
8. Not trying
9. Not thinking about any of it too much
10. A quick drink with friends after the gym

This is amazing. Here is the tarot card reading I just got when I came to work this morning:
The answer to your question is - KNIGHT OF SWORDS - You or someone you are involved with is experiencing mental battles such as having to defend ideas or having to fight for ideals or freedom of thought. It is about cutting through entanglements or through limited thinking. This is the card of the thought warrior and the brave thinker and has to do with issues of not being intimidated by the establishment. It is about acting as a rebel in the name of clarity and truth by destroying repression or false morality. This card can represent the power of the written word.
And here is my horoscope:
Libra

It's
difficult for you to understand where your great inspiration comes from
today, yet a fresh wind is blowing in this new year. Your muse may be
encouraging you to manifest something beautiful, but you could still
struggle with the act of creation. No matter how out of place you might
feel, take the ideas that come to you now and work them into everything
you create. So now I need to see if I can apply it all to my writing. Stay tuned!

Inspired by walking
I've been going on some amazing walks lately, and they are inspiring me in all sorts of ways. I not only sleep better at night, I also feel better in general, and have been coming up with ideas for writing and cooking, too. Here's a photo of a cave I visited on a walk recently, and one with me in it! Summer is just beginning and I'm looking forward to spending lots of time getting inspired by nature and exercise!

Inspiration
I just read this and found it interesting: "Inspiration - the very word meaning to breathe inward that which is
outside of and all around us -" and then decided to look up the word. I found this:
Main
Entry: in·spi·ra·tion
Pronunciation: \ˌin(t)-spə-ˈrā-shən, -(ˌ)spi-\
Function:
noun
Date: 14th century
1
a : a divine influence or action on a person
believed to qualify him or her to receive and communicate sacred
revelation b : the action or power of
moving the intellect or emotions c :
the act of influencing or suggesting opinions
2 : the act of drawing in; specifically : the drawing of air into the lungs
3 a : the quality or state of being inspired b : something that is inspired
4 : an inspiring agent or influence
2 : the act of drawing in; specifically : the drawing of air into the lungs
3 a : the quality or state of being inspired b : something that is inspired
4 : an inspiring agent or influence
— in·spi·ra·tion·al
\-shnəl, -shə-nəl\ adjective
— in·spi·ra·tion·al·ly adverb
So, my original phrasing about "breathe deeply, look inward, be inspired" on my first blog was appropriate in many ways!
