Back to School

Today I'll be leaving work early to make the drive across town to go back to school.  Not only will it be the first day of the Fall 2010 semester, it'll be my first day in my new MFA program!  I'm so excited to get going.  I'll be taking a graduate fiction writing workshop, a film/fiction class, and also an internship with DSU's writing publication FI.  I can hardly concentrate on work (obviously! look at me here) and I'm a bit nervous, but I know that once I get through the first few class meetings I'll be fine.

It's always a strange feeling to know that summer is over, or almost over and that we are heading into Fall.  It already feels like Fall to me.  The weather has been getting cooler and there is a certain softness, or quietness in the air.  I always feel a bit melancholy at this time, and I don't know why.  I guess it's the slowing down and the shorter days; it makes me feel there has been or there will be some sort of loss.  Loss of freedom?  Loss of time?  Friendships?  Not sure what it is.  In any case, I look forward to Fall because I know that the shorter days and cooler weather always inspire me to write.  Wish me luck going back - I need all the help I can get!
